Boothbay Harbor — Boothbay Playhouse will hold auditions for its 2014 summer show Saturday afternoon, Feb. 8. There will be auditions by appointment from noon to 5 p.m. — ensemble signup will be from 3 to 5 p.m. — at the Boothbay Region YMCA Annex Building, 261 Townsend Ave.

Auditions are by appointment; callbacks and snow date is the following day. For an audition appointment, email or call 633-6309.

The season will open with “South Pacific,” June 26 through July 12; rehearsals will begin late-May. Cable, Luther Billis, Abner, Stewpot, Liat, Lt. Buzz Adams and Commander Harbison, among many others. There are two children’s roles, one girl and one boy, age 8 to 10. There is a large ensemble, with great song and dance numbers for the sailors and nurses including "There Is Nothing Like A Dame" and "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair."

“Into the Woods” will be produced July 17 through Aug. 1; rehearsals will begin mid-June. The Brothers Grimm hit the stage with an epic fairytale where worlds collide. There are more than 20 featured roles including The Baker, The Bakers Wife, The Witch, Cinderella, Cinderella's Mother, Cinderella's Stepmother, Florinda, Lucinda, Jack, Jack's Mother, Little Red, Rapunzel, Cinderella's Prince, Rapunzel's Prince, The Wolf, The Mysterious Man, The Narrator, The Steward, Cinderella's Father. This show does not have ensemble roles.

“Children of Eden” will be produced Aug. 7 through 23; rehearsals begin mid-July. Act 1 of this powerful musical is loosely based on the story of Genesis, while Act 2 is based on the story of Noah and the Ark. Featured adult roles include Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel, Father, Noah, Aphra, Aysha, Ham, Mama and Japheth. Featured children's roles include Young Cain and Young Abel, age 8 to 12. This show has wonderful ensemble roles for all ages, a good show for families to do together. All are welcome but children younger than 8 must either have permission from the director or be accompanied both back-stage and on-stage by a parent.

Auditioners should come prepared to sing a song of their choice; bring sheet music for the song that to be singing, an accompanist will be provided. Walk-ins are welcome, but will be seen after those with appointments, if there is time.

Everyone who would like to be considered for a lead role to audition is encouraged to try out. If they wish to, adults who have been in a Boothbay Playhouse show within the last two years can let their past performance serve as their audition, although they still need to fill out an audition form on or before Feb. 8. Adults and children who wish to join the ensemble do not need to audition but do need to fill out a "sign-up" form on or before Feb. 8; email ahead of time or stop by during the auditions to fill out a "sign-up" form.
