Hope — Selectmen awarded the 2014-15 winter road maintenance contract to Farley & Son at their Tuesday, March 25, meeting, Town Administrator Jon Duke said.

Farley has had the contract for a number of years, and although its bid was the highest, at $344,700, Duke said the Board had objections to the other two bidders. Selectmen were concerned that Wilson Construction and Landscaping, which bid $282,199, did not have enough experience with jobs of this size, and also lacked the necessary equipment, Duke said. He said the Board was interested in T&L Landscaping's bid of $328,485, but some members were disappointed that T&L did not attend the meeting. Farley was represented at the meeting by Tom Farley.

Selectmen also awarded the portable toilet contract to current contract holder Handy Portable Toilets. The units are at True Park and the boat launch/swim area at Hobbs Pond.

The Board's next meeting, April 8, will be largely devoted to discussion of the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, Duke said. Residents will vote on the budget at town meeting Monday, June 16.
