Blues power for Memorial Day

May 13, 2014
Alexis P. Suter

Rockland — The weekly blues series continues May 26 with a 7 p.m. show by the Alexis P. Suter Band. Admission at the door will be $15.

International recording artist Alexis P. Suter is a powerhouse vocalist who transcends styles and genres. When the great bluesman B.B. King first heard her sing, he was visibly impressed and said so after her opening set for him at BB Kings NYC. The Alexis P. Suter Band has earned similar accolades from other well-known musicians and performers including Dan Aykroyd and the late Levon Helm of The Band.

A true vocal phenomenon, Suter and her band began wowing audiences in the Northeast as opened the show at The Midnight Ramble in Woodstock, N.Y. They played to sold-out audiences at the Beacon Theater, Bethel Woods Center For The Arts, the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, N.J., and Central Park’s Summerstage.

Since then, the APSB has been in high demand at North American roots and blues festivals. Suter was nominated for Best Soul Blues Female Artist at the 33rd annual Blues Music Awards. In January 2012, “All Over Again” from the band’s album “Two Sides” was NPR’s Song Of The Day. Along with Suter’s extraordinary bass/baritone voice and powerful stage presence, the Alexis P. Suter Band garners clapping and cheering appreciation for drummer Ray Grappone’s dynamic beats, guitarist Jimmy Bennett’s searing leads, keyboard man Benny Harrison’s high-flying solos, Peter Bennett’s down-home solid bass and the very talented backing vocalist Vicki Bell.

Next up in the weekly series are: June 2, Chris Duarte ($15); and a special two-band night starting 6:30 p.m. June 9 with Shawn Holt and the Teardrops plus the Popa Chubby Band ($20; tickets for this show on sale now, call 596-6055).
