Blueberry farming a focus in weekly drawing classes
Rockland — Children will continue exploring Maine memories this summer at the weekly drawing classes led by Catinka Knoth at Rockland Public Library. Knoth leads children ages 6 and up (and adults) in follow-along drawings on a variety of motifs. Children age 10 and under should be accompanied by an adult.
Wendy and Keith Wellin sponsor the workshops, which are free and open to the public with all materials provided. Classes meet every Tuesday from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Community Room. The workshops are hosted by Friends of Rockland Library. For more information call Jean Young, children's librarian, at 594-0310.
August themes will include Maine lighthouses and boats (Aug. 7); Maine birds such as puffins, eagles, ospreys and chickadees (Aug. 14); Maine farms with blueberry farming and Belted Galloways (Aug. 21); and a Maine country fair (Aug. 28).
Knoth said everyone can draw if they keep their minds and eyes open, and that drawing by following along allows one to discover new ways of interpreting subjects. Knoth, known for her watercolors of Maine scenes and animal drawings, also gives watercolor workshops for adults. Her work may be seen at www.catinkacards.com.
