Thomaston — There were no shortage of goals from the Oceanside girls lacrosse team in the team's 20-18 loss to Camden Hills on May 20, but the Mariners' match against Class A Westbrook on Wednesday, May 21 was altogether different.

In a match played on Sam Pendleton Field, the Mariners could not match firepower with the Blue Blazes and were downed 10-1.

Sierra Beal scored the lone goal for Oceanside on an assist from Abbey Lacasse.

Leading the offense for the Blue Blazes were Micaela LeBeau (4 goals), Kate Berry (2 goals), Jackie Harris (2 goals), Emma Riley (goal) and Abby St. Clair (goal).

Bailee Cox made 13 saves in goal for Oceanside, while Nicole Miranda made three saves in the net for Westbrook.

The score was 6-1 at halftime.

Oceanside coach Angela Vachon said her team started well, but the “strong defense and the midfield passing of the Westbrook team kept the Mariners at bay” throughout the game.

The coach said Cox was “superior” in goal and helped keep the hosts relatively close, while Sydney Hall “was quick to the ball and forced many passes.” Audrey Raymond, Olivia Hupper, Kelsey Brooks and Jillian Brooks also had good games for Oceanside, Vachon said.

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, Oceanside (3-6, 5.6944 points) is seventh, while Yarmouth (6-1, 74.3056 points) is first in the nine-team region. The top six teams qualify for the playoffs.
