Rockland — A downed tree was the cause of a power outage that affected 1,800 residents in Rockland, Rockport and Thomaston on Saturday afternoon, May 12, according to Central Maine Power.

Street lights on the busy sections of Camden Street and Maverick Street were out, causing some traffic confusion. Businesses in that area were without power. In the Breakwater Marketplace building, emergency lights came on. Employees from several businesses could be seen out in the parking lots enjoying the warm weather.

Employees at Staples waited until 3:15 p.m. until power returned to the supplies and electronics store.

According to Central Maine Power, the outage was reported at 1:53 p.m. and power was back on at 4:26 p.m.
