Birds of Beech Hill
Camden — Local photographer Brian Willson will present a colorful slide show of The Birds of Beech Hill Preserve at Camden Public Library Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m.
The event, co-sponsored by Coastal Mountains Land Trust and Mid-Coast Audubon Society, is open to the public and free of charge.
Willson's presentation will serve up a feast for the eyes, but his deep familiarity with his subjects fuels good stories, as well. A Land Trust volunteer trail steward, Willson visits the Rockport preserve on a near-daily basis year-round and has photographed a wide range of bird species there through the four seasons. Among his favorite avian subjects: warblers, a resident Pileated Woodpecker, harriers that hover over the blueberry fields, crows, and this winter's charismatic visitor, a snowy owl. Willson also assisted Land Trust staff in bird surveys that led to the compilation of a comprehensive checklist for Beech Hill Preserve, which is an official stop on the Maine Birding Trail. His photography is available for viewing and purchase at MaineSeasons.com.
