Thomaston — "It's been a fun ride, but we're closing down Billy's Tavern," is what it says on Billy's Tavern's Facebook page.

The owner of Billy's Tavern, Billy Burke and his son Christopher are leasing the space to Vicki Fales — who owns the Waterworks in Rockland.

"She has a great personality and a real passion for the business," said Christopher Burke in a Feb. 27 email.

On March 6, Billy's will open for lunch and dinner as The Water Dog Tavern.

"We are thrilled that there will still be a fun place in the community for people to congregate and enjoy each other's company and quality live music," Burke said.

While he said they will miss all the friends they have made on a regular basis, Burke said he is busy working to launch The Blue Peter Rum Company this summer. Further details have yet to be disclosed.

"It seemed a fitting time to more fully focus my energy on this new venture," said Burke.

To close out Burke's tavern and introduce his new venture, Billy's will host a Single Malt Whiskey Tasting Saturday, March 1.

Meanwhile, Fales is working feverishly to get everything in line for the opening.

"We are in a flurry of activity trying to get open for March 6," said Fales in an email Feb. 27.

"We'll miss seeing all our friends on a regular basis," Billy's Facebook page said Feb. 27.
