Big Easy, Big Apple music goes Velvet

Rockland — The Velvet Lounge music series at Rock City Café, 316 Main St., will present live music Friday and Saturday, July 18 and 19, from 7 to 9 p.m.

On Friday, the Velvet Lounge will present B. Singer, who splits his time between the coastal mountains of Maine and the sweet and gritty city of New Orleans. Born in London and come of age in the Big Easy, Singer comes from a family of choir members, piano players, music lovers and hard working people. He describes hi music, featured on the new recording “Cherryfield,” as all good and salty, with swing.

On Saturday, Rock City Cafe's Velvet Lounge welcomes back the Bill Barnes Jazz Trio featuring the veteran New York session guitarist. Barnes started his musical career in the late 1960s, touring with ATCO Records recording artist Arthur Conley (“Sweet Soul Music”). He has since played with a stellar lineup of music industry heavies. The popular trio’s repertoire includes gypsy jazz, classic jazz standards, sultry bossa novas, tasty ballads and cool, laid-back blues.

Rock City’s lunch service is now extended till closing on music nights. For more information on this and other events happening at the coffeebar/cafe, call 594-4123 or find it on Facebook.
