Bellows to speak at Knox County Democrats meeting
Rockland — Hear her here first. Newly announced U.S. Senate candidate Shenna Bellows will address the monthly meeting of the Knox County Democratic Committee Tuesday, Nov. 12.
Bellows grew up in Hancock and currently resides in Manchester with her husband, Brandon Baldwin. She stepped down this summer as executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine in order to challenge Susan Collins in 2014 for the U.S. Senate seat.
During her eight-year tenure with ACLU-Maine, she was a leading participant in numerous civil rights victories around voting and privacy rights and marriage equality.
Earlier in her career, she was the national field organizer for the ACLU in Washington, a Peace Corps volunteer in Panama, a VISTA volunteer in Tennessee and was an exchange student in Costa Rica and in Brazil.
She will speak for 30 minutes beginning shortly after 7 p.m. and will take questions.
The evening will begin as usual at 6 p.m. with a potluck supper and open discussion for any who wish to bring something to share. A microwave is available. The public is welcome to attend the potluck and to meet Bellows and hear her presentation.
A business meeting will follow until 9 p.m.
