Belfast student wins full tuition to automotive school
Camden — On July 24, Cody Nelson was selected as a winner of the mikeroweWORKS Foundation and Universal Technical Institute Scholarship.
Nelson will a receive full-tuition scholarship to the automotive & diesel industrial technology program at the Norwood, Mass. campus of Universal Technical Institute to pursue his passion for a career in the transportation industry.
Nelson is a 2014 graduate of Belfast Area High School. He is from Camden.
In addition to Nelson, 32 enrolled students will receive full-tuition scholarships in the core training program of their choice at UTI campuses across the country, totaling approximately $1 million in scholarships awarded.
Scholarship candidates were required to submit an application and compelling video making a case as to why they deserved to win. More than 270 finalist videos were posted on UTI’s Facebook page for a public voting period to select the winners.
In his video, Nelson describes both his passion and commitment; during high school he was a member of the National Technical Honor Society and also earned a welding certification, at the same time he built and rebuilt vehicles, engines and more. His goal is to buy his own service trucks and work as a diesel technician for the strong diesel industry that spans Maine’s coastline.
