Be advised: snow is coming
Gray — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow for Knox and Waldo counties, in effect from 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, through 4 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19. The advisory area also includes southern Somerset County. There is a Winter Storm Warning for Lincoln County and farther south.
The Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. The Winter Storm Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring.
Snow will overspread the Midcoast by Tuesday afternoon, possibly becoming heavy at times through the evening. It will taper off from south to north Tuesday evening, likely ending around midnight. A short duration of heavy snow, with rates of one inch per hour or more, may occur around the time of the evening commute.
Snowfall amounts may fall just short of six inches in the advisory area and up to eight inches in the watch area. Winds will be out of the east 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph, with visibilities one-quarter mile or less at times. Temperatures will be in the lower 20s.
