Be a superhero: Adopt a shelter pet
Have you ever wanted to be a superhero? You can be. Be a hero by adopting a shelter pet. Its never been easier to save a life. Now, through the end of the month, we are offering a super deal on all cats, aged 1 year and older. Adopt an adult cat for only a $15 adoption fee. Help us fight pet homelessness — adopt, foster, donate or volunteer.
Many of the more than 1,200 animals we get in the shelter each year are brought to us as strays from the 20 towns we serve. Others are relinquished by residents who can no longer keep their animals for a variety of reasons: an unexpected move, allergies, a death in the family, a loss of a job, an illness, etc. And when there is a need and we have room in our kennels, we will help our fellow Maine shelters and relieve their overflow by taking some of their dogs. Boo, our pet pick of the week, is one of three dogs who just arrived from a neighboring Maine shelter.
Boo is a darling 4-year-old poodle, Pekingese mix. In his previous home he lived with kids and cats. Boo also gets along with most dogs. He already knows some basic obedience commands, is house-trained and is good on a leash. This little dog is a real people pleaser and he loves getting attention.
