Rockland — Barry George Hathaway Jr., 48, of Wilton went home to the Lord Sunday, Aug, 31, 2014. He was born July 28, 1966, to Barry and Barbara Schanck Hathaway in Farmington.

Barry was a 1984 graduate of Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro, where he played the trumpet in the band and was in the chess and computer club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Fifth Battalion, and trained at Fort Jackson, S.C. He was skilled in computers, achieving an A+ Certification and was a webmaster. He operated Hathaway Specialty Merchandise Online Superstore and Hathaway Import and Export. He worked as a shoemaker, auto mechanic, in construction and as a retail supervisor at Nautica. He was an accomplished cook aboard the Isaac H. Evans. He loved to play the guitar as well as teach guitar. He was a Christian and loved his family who loved him with all their heart. Barry enjoyed fishing, camping, rock collecting, family reunions and helping out other people.

Barry was the grandson of Thronald and Iva Hanson Hathaway and Hilary and Agnes Pressery Schanck. He was predeceased by his grandparents and, uncle George Guppy, cousin Keith Lemieux, uncle Joseph Ernest Lemieux, uncle Duane Hathaway, and aunt Thelma Schanck Lemieux. He is survived by his parents, sister Brenda Thomas, nephew Kai Thomas and niece Kamea Thomas of Rockland, aunt Marcia Hathaway Donald and husband John of New Sharon, aunt Shanda Hathaway Parlin and husband David of Charleston, aunt Lillian Guppy of Wilton, uncle Vernon Schanck and wife Pat of Farmington and three great aunts, Thelma Pressey Kendall of Sumner, Ruth Hanson Lloyd of Lincoln and Minnie Hanson Field of Stratton, plus numerous cousins.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. at Adams-McFarlane Funeral & Cremation 108 Court St., Farmington, Pastor David Zamboni will officiate. Interment prayers will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton. A reception will be held at Hathaway Lake House, 17 Stowell Road, Wilton.
