Babe Ruth championship game pushed to July 17

Rain puts damper on getting final contest of season off ground

Waldoboro — Those waiting on pins and needles for a Midcoast Babe Ruth League baseball champion to be crowned will have to wait a bit longer.

The final game between No. 1 Waldo County of Searsport (12-1) and No. 2 Swan Lake Grocery of Belfast (11-2) has been pushed from Wednesday, July 16 to Thursday, July 17 at Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro.

The game, postponed a day due to persistent rain in the Midcoast, is slated for a 5 p.m. first pitch.

Waldo County went 2-0 against Swan Lake Grocery during the regular season as it won 11-10 in eight innings June 29 in Belfast and 13-5 June 15 in Searsport.

Waldo County defeated No. 9 Camden 11-1 in the quarterfinals and No. 4 Rockport 11-2 in the semifinals to advance to the finals, while Swan Lake Grocery beat No. 7 Damariscotta Lions 10-4 in the quarterfinals and No. 3 Rockland Café 14-10 in the semifinals to advance to the title game.

Waldo County is the defending league champion.
