Ax-wielding man ends computer feud, lands in jail
Belfast — A Union man was arrested on a charge of domestic violence terrorizing, according to police, after he destroyed his own computer with an ax because he was upset that his former girlfriend was using it against his wishes Saturday night, Jan. 26.
Belfast Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said 42-year-old Steven Wescott, who shows a Union address on his arrest record, had been drinking at a residence on Searsport Avenue at the time of the incident. Cunningham said Wescott was at the residence with a former live-in girlfriend just after 6 p.m. when the two began arguing.
“She didn’t want him to use the fry pan to cook chicken, because he doesn’t clean the mess up,” said Cunningham.
The disagreement escalated when the woman decided to use Wescott’s computer.
“She was using his computer, and he didn’t want her to,” said Cunningham.
In response, Cunningham said, Wescott went to another room and got an ax, and without speaking to the woman or threatening her, he took the computer into another room and smashed it with the ax.
When police arrived at the scene, Cunningham said, Wescott stated that he took the computer outside to destroy it, but officers located pieces of the computer inside the house.
Wescott is scheduled to appear in court Thursday, Feb. 28.
