Avena Botanicals hosts pressed plant workshop

Jul 24, 2014
Lynette Breton will lead a workshop on pressed plants Wednesday, Aug. 6 at Avena Botanicals in Rockport.

Rockport — The act of preserving plants by pressing them is another way of being with plants and their energy throughout the four seasons. Whether it is for their visual beauty or the study of them, this way of looking at plants helps attune one to their senses, something greatly needed at this point in time. The experience of looking closely at plants can be extremely grounding and connects one to their earthly home.

The workshop, which is apart of Avena's Living Earth, Living Soul Series, will cover collection, techniques on pressing to retain the best color as well as how to store and mount pressed plant matter. The workshop will be held Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Avena Botanicals, Mill Street, Rockport. The suggested donation is $10.

Presenter Lynette Breton is a furniture-maker based in Harpswell. Currently she is producing a small line of Heirloom Flower Presses made from wood. She has taught furniture making extensively and was a faculty member at The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport for 10 years as well as programs at Anderson Ranch in Colorado and Arrowmont in Tennessee.
