Today at the Old Homestead you can see the fireplace this base supports
In earlier years, many homes had central fireplaces with outlets in more than one room. Such was the case at the Old Homestead in Owl's Head. The fireplace in the kitchen was restored and the mantle is still present in the parlor. We aren't able to let visitors into the basement but this picture shows the base of this large fireplace in a relatively small house.
The Homestead at 224 Ash Point Dr is open Wednesdays from 2 to 4pm through September. Please come see our work in progress as we restore this historic building. (If you are using GPS, it is a little off on Ash Point Dr)
