Astaire, Hayworth in wartime musical

May 30, 2014
Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth prove to be a good dance pairing in “You’ll Never Get Rich.”

Rockland — The monthly Second & Fourth Thursday Films series at Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St., continues June 12 with “You’ll Never Get Rich,” screened 6 p.m. in the Friends Community Room.

This 1941 film stars Fred Astaire, Rita Hayworth and Robert Benchley. After his wife discovers a telltale diamond bracelet, impresario Martin Cortland (Benchley) tries to show he is not chasing after showgirl Sheila Winthrop (Hayworth). Choreographer Robert Curtis (Astaire) gets caught in the middle of the boss's scheme. Army conscription offers Robert the perfect escape from his troubles — or does it?

Admission is free. Handicapped accommodations are available with 48-hours notice by calling 594-0310.
