Art Space opens year-ending show
Rockland — Art Space Gallery, 342 Main St., will host an opening reception Friday, Nov. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. The gallery is home to works by 19 artists, most of whom will be featured in the street-front room. Until Christmas, the front room will be home to works under $250. The work will include a diverse offering of original art.
Member artists display an impressive array of interests and styles that should appeal to a wide variety of people and will help support the arts during this holiday shopping season. There will be original paintings of oil, acrylic, pastel and watercolor, with prints of selected works available as well. Subject matter varies from colorful Maine landscapes and seascapes to quiet views of nature; and from impressionistic color studies to luscious still lifes. Visitors will find a range of narrative figurative work and also will see bold color-filled abstractions.
There will be a variety of photographs to choose from, some depicting the wonders of Maine and others revealing the magic of extreme close-up views of nature. Photography will include modern archival prints as well as platinum-palladium prints with the image quality of an early etching. Other framed and unframed work will consist of one-of-a-kind monoprints of familiar leafy wonders.
Three-dimensional art also will be available. There will be original ceramic pottery and sculpture, and musical metal sculpture made of copper and steel appealing to more than the visual senses. Wearable jewelry made of silver, handmade glass and gold will be offered. Quilted pieces will be shown, made of abstract designs with textured fabrics and inspired by Japanese methods of designing traditional garments.
The balance of Art Space Gallery will display more works from the member artists. Fall hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in November; and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in December. The gallery also will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 for the downtown Festival of the Lights Celebration in Rockland; and First Friday art walk on Dec. 7.
