Art Space introduces new season

Wendy Wight is working on a series of waterfront “snapshots.”

Rockland — Art Space Gallery invites the public to welcome new members Roger Barry and Wendy Wight and kick off the 2014 season Friday, May 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. During the month of May, the front room will feature the work of our newest members, along with selections from all of the artists of the downtown gallery, 342 Main St.

Barry makes organic, intricately carved sculptures primarily in walnut and cherry wood. Each piece reflects and honors its natural essence, and many involve interaction through the use of hidden locks or vintage hardware.

Wight is creating a series of paintings on reclaimed wood found on the side of the road. The work reflects how Maine is rugged and the people who live here are very resourceful. Scenery changes quickly on the water, so these pieces serve as snapshots of memory.  She plans to create about 100 for this series over the course of the summer.

May gallery hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Art Space Gallery is located across from the Strand Theatre. For more information, visit us at ArtSpaceMaine.com.
