Art in Auction for the Animals
Camden — On Thursday, Nov. 29 from 6 to 9 p.m., P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center will hold its annual Auction for the Animals at High Mountain Hall, 5 Mountain St./Route 52. This event has become the unofficial opening to Camden’s Christmas by the Sea festivities; last year it raised $10,000 to help support the mission of P.A.W.S.
In addition to the traditional silent auction, this year’s event will feature the services of professional auctioneer Kaja Veilleux from Thomaston Place Auction Gallery for a live auction event as well. The silent auction and live auction preview will begin at 6 p.m. and the live auction will begin at 7:30 p.m. There is no admission fee, but everyone will be required to register for a number in order to bid on either silent or live auction items.
Other things to look forward to are delicious hors d’oeuvres from French & Brawn Market Place; decadent sweets made by Laugh Loud Smile Big; a gourmet coffee bar run by Foglifters Coffees, Teas & Spices; and a High Mountain Hall cash bar. There also will be an Angel Tree with items the shelter can use, homemade cookie trays for purchase and Beauty Mark Spa will be open for chair massages.
A continually growing list of items that will be available to bid on is ready for viewing on the P.A.W.S. website, PawsAdoption.org, and new items are added on a daily basis. Some of the more unusual items offered this year are a pair of tickets to see “Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway; a three-night stay at the Latham Hotel in Philadelphia; a 1927 Jules Verne book with color plates by N.C. Wyeth, signed by Jamie Wyeth and Nicky Wyeth (grandsons of N.C.) and an illustration drawn especially for P.A.W.S. by Jamie; a signed Eric Hopkins original print that has never been released; an opal and diamond brooch; and “Royalty” by fabric artist Jude Spacks of Belfast. There also are certificates for everything from bowling to movies to meals; and items donated by local businesses and artisans.
