Good job to the boys basketball team this year! They finished 8-4, including a hard fought battle with undefeated Vinalhaven in the semi-finals. Great job boys!
Boys in grades 6, 7 and 8 who are interested in playing baseball this spring on the combined Hope-Appleton team are encouraged to put their names on the sign-up sheet in the gym. We need to determine if there are enough students to form a team this year.
Little League Baseball/Softball
Please notice the new changes in baseball/softball in Little League Program. As of this upcoming season 2013 Appleton is no longer fielding teams for T-ball, Minor Leagues, Major League Baseball/Softball. Knox Suburban Little League is in its final year, and as a result, all of its teams are now going to play in the leagues where the kids will attend High School. Therefore Washington, Warren and Union will go to Waldoboro Little League. Thomaston and St. George will go to Rockland Little League, and Appleton, Hope and Lincolnville will go to Camden Little League. Due to diminishing numbers in most towns it was decided to phase out Know Suburban Little League and send teams/players to new locations to strengthen their programs and allow our kids a place to play.
There are not enough interested players to field teams in Washington, Hope and Appleton. So these towns’ children will play in their new leagues as of this year. As of next year it will be all towns adapting to their new leagues. Any returning major league players from 2012 are guaranteed a slot on Camden Little League rosters; they will still tryout so Camden coaches can evaluate players and then select them through the draft process.
New players will tryout also but with the knowledge that if they are not selected for a major league team they will be awarded a slot on a minor league team deemed appropriate for said child's level. T-ball and Minor League age players will need to go through Camden's process of determining what level the child should be playing at. I have included the website for Camden Little League please check out the information on it if you have a child interested in playing either baseball or softball: http://crll.sportsoffice.com. League President of Camden-Rockport Little League Suzanne Schecter can be contacted at sschecter@live.com. For more information or assistance you can contact Mark LaFleche at ksll_mark@yahoo.com, and he will do his best to help you out!
