Burkettville Grange News
There will be a baked bean supper at Burkettville Grange Hall, Burkettville Road (Route 105) on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
There will be baked beans, casseroles, salads, biscuits, brown bread, pies, coffee, tea and punch. The cost for adults is $8, children $3, and younger than 5 is free. Proceeds to benefit Medomac Valley Grange.
The Hunter’s Breakfast, an eighth-grade fundraiser, will be on Nov. 3 from 3 a.m. to 11 a.m. The fifth-grade is looking for people to donate dominoes. They use them for indoor recess time. If you have a few kicking around, or a complete set that you would be happy to donate, please drop them off at the school.
There are 13 students taking guitar lessons at AVS. They are looking for three more guitars. If you have or know of any acoustic guitar not being used, they have a student who would be very happy to play it! Either a donation or a loan would be much appreciated. There guitars remain at the school and the students use them there. They are also looking for an alto sax for a student. If you have any leads on an instrument, please call the school at 785-4504. The school will have an early release Oct. 25 at 11:30 a.m. and parent/teacher conferences will be that afternoon.
Fire Department News
The fire department has a supply of smoke detectors available to Appleton families who need one. If you have a need, contact the school office at 785-4504 and they will pass it on to the fire department.
News from the YMCA
The YMCA will be offering two youth recreation programs for kindergarten through second-grade students for the fall II Session, beginning Oct. 22. On Mondays, a floor hockey program will run from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. On Wednesdays, a Rec Sports program will run from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. that will have a fun new sport each week for the kids to enjoy, such as pillow polo, indoor soccer, and Sharks and Minnows. Each program is designed for the kids to have fun and also learn a little about each game. The cost for each program is $25 for Y members, $45 for non-members, and $20 for kids club members. Call the Y at 236-3375 or stop by to sign up.
Windjammer Youth basketball is starting up soon. For grades 1 and 2, the season is on Saturdays, starting Nov. 10, through Jan. 26. The girls will play 9 to 10 a.m., the boys will play 10 to 11 a.m. or 11 to noon. Each team will practice for about 30 minutes with their coach and then have a fun game with another team.
For grades 3 through 6 the season starts Oct. 23 and goes until Jan. 26. The practice days will vary, but the games will be on Saturdays at the YMCA or Lincolnville Central School. For more information call the YMCA or go to pbymca.sportsoffice.com to register.
