Appleton Library will resume Story Time on Thursdays at 10:15 a.m. on Sept. 4. This is a fun time for children and their caregivers to hear books read aloud and to participate in crafts and games.
Our Bikes for Books Summer Reading Program is ending Thursday, Sept. 4. All books must be logged by that date to be counted toward the raffle of six bikes donated by the Masons. The raffle drawing will be held at a celebratory party Saturday, Sept. 6, at 10:30 a.m. For more information, please contact the library at 785-5656 or appletonlibraryme.org.
Appleton Historical Society News
Harvest of the Arts will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at Appleton Union Meetinghouse, 2875 Sennebec Road. The Harvest of the Arts is our annual festival of local artists, writers, musicians and artisans, a celebration of local talent in the various arts. There is no admission fee, and if you yourself are interested in participating, please contact Jan Janville at 785-4188.
Our September Appleton Historical Society meeting will be the following day, Monday the 8th of September, at 7 p.m. in the Meetinghouse, featuring the Appleton Ridge Rug Hooking Group. There will be a demonstration of the ancient (and modern) art of hooking rugs by our local Appleton Ridge Hooking Group. We'll also learn something from them about Minnie Light, Appleton's most famous practitioner of this art.
Each of these sessions will be accompanied by light refreshments, and the public is welcome.

A new school year has started! I know that my kids were ready for school to start again! There will be a school committee meeting Monday, Sept. 15, at 6 p.m. in the AVS Library. All are welcome to attend.
