Memorial Day

Memorial Day will be here before you know it! The service at the Miller Cemetery in Burkettville will be at 10 a.m., Monday, May 26. The Pine Grove Cemetery Service will start at 11 a.m. You can meet at Gushee’s Corner at 10:45 a.m. to walk into the cemetery.

Scouts, sports teams, home schoolers, parents, veterans and everyone are encouraged to meet at 10:45 a.m. at Gushee’s Corner to walk into the cemetery!

News from the Town Office

May 27, 7 p.m. is the Five Town CSD School Budget Meeting at the high school in Rockport.

May 29, 7 p.m. is the Appleton Village School Budget Meeting at Appleton Village School.

AVS News

Please attend our festive day of cross-cultural sharing May 19 at 1 p.m. Spanish students are in charge of making food samples, presenting keynotes presentations and projects. Also, they will be welcoming guests and dancing! They are working hard on their tasks to make this a special day to remember. Kindergarten registration for this fall’s class is scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, May 27. Registration materials have been mailed to those on our list. If you haven’t been in touch with the school or know someone who is eligible to enroll, please call 785-4504 for an appointment.

Congratulations to the following students who won the Agricultural Poster Contest: 1st place: Claire Wyman, 2nd place (a tie!): Fiona Smith and Owen Pendleton, and honorable mention: Ella Williams. These and all posters will be on display this Saturday at Aldermere Farm's Calf Unveiling Day.

The next school committee meeting will be May 19 at 6 p.m. in the AVS library.

There will be an early release May 22, and no school May 23 or 26 due to Teachers workshops and Memorial Day.

The last day of school will be a half day, Saturday, June 21.

MONEY- Athletic Foundation 5K Road Race

The More Opportunities for Neighborhood Youth (MONEY) Athletic Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, will host a 5K road race as a fundraiser,-- the “Run 4 the MONEY” -- Sunday, May 25. All proceeds from the event will go directly to scholarships for local youth who work hard to reach their athletic goals. The event will start with a free one-mile Children's Fun Run beginning at 9 a.m. at Lincolnville Central School. Registration ($25) for the 5K opens at 8:30 a.m. with the race beginning promptly at 10 a.m. Participants of all abilities are welcome to walk or run the course and we encourage each to get sponsors. People who would like to participate but cannot make it to the site can participate virtually from any location on earth. Since 2002 the MONEY Athletic Foundation has raised more than $140,000 to support hundreds of young athletes from the local area.

CHRHS Annual Plant Sale

Spring is here! Plants are growing in the greenhouse! New and unusual plants available! The Horticulture & Gardening class’s annual sale will take place Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, at the greenhouse on campus. We have lots of vegetable and herb seedlings as well as a wide variety of annuals and perennials. Several new varieties, including heirlooms can be found. Saturday, May 17, the sale will take place from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 6-packs and 4-inch pots are $3 each. Buy three and get a fourth free. On Sunday, May 18, the sale will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. Everything is buy one, get one free and the last hour everything is $1. All proceeds support the Horticulture & Gardening program and school gardens at CHRHS!! We hope to see you there!
