The fifth-grade is collecting letters to send to our troops overseas to wish them well this holiday season. We need your help! If you would like to help, simply make a card or two and write "Holiday Letter for a Hero" on the envelope. We will be sending them off in December. Our goal is to collect 200 letters. Help us with our goal. Deadline: Wednesday, Dec. 11. Drop them off at Appleton Village School.

Save the date! Appleton school will be hosting a contra dance Dec. 13, from 7 to 10 p.m., with a live band Velocipede (Chrissy Fowler will the caller). Tickets will be $8 for adults, $5 for students and all money raised will go into restoring funds for our field trips. Chrissy Fowler is an energetic and very patient caller who is used to teaching people of all ages how to contra dance — it will be a fun event for all! We will also be having a silent auction from 6 to 8 p.m. and food concessions. If you would like to offer an auction item or food concession, please email Cheryl Morin at Possible auction items might be: babysitting services, birthday treats for a party, car alignment, housecleaning service, specialty gift basket or homemade dinner delivered.

I thought that everyone did a wonderful job in the "Charlotte’s Web" play! I loved seeing the kids all dressed up in their costumes. Thank you to all those who had a part in the play.

Christmas Trees

The Cleaveland Family Tree Farm would like to offer free Christmas trees again this year to those families or individuals in need of a tree. They are not perfect trees, but the price is right and you can cut your own. The farm is located in Appleton and you must be able to take your tree away. We do not deliver. You must call first to arrange a time to meet with us: 845-2067. Happy Holidays!

Christmas Tree Lighting in Union

Christmas Tree Lighting on Union Common will be Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. They will illuminate 30 Christmas trees and 36 Christmas balls, have a dedication, and sing some Christmas carols around a bonfire. There will be free hot chocolate and cookies.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We all have so much in our lives to be thankful for. This Thanksgiving was extra special for me this year, as I gave birth to my fourth child! She decided she wanted to be here to celebrate with us! Even though the day wasn’t a ‘normal’ Thanksgiving, it was still perfect. I hope that everyone had a great day with their friends and family.
