School will be starting in just a few days, Sept. 3. I know that there is going to be a lot of changes at the school this year and money is tight due to some unforeseen things happening in the budget. I ask that we just continue to support the teachers and workers at the school.
News from the Town Office
The town is looking for someone to fill the Appleton position on the CSD School Board. We voted on this position back in June but the person that was elected is unable to be on the board this year. The CSD board meets one Wednesday a month. It’s an important position, as Appleton needs a voice on the board. If you are interested see Pam at the town office or call her at 785-4722. Thanks!
Jeff Landwehr Memorial Fund
The Jeff Landwehr Memorial Fund has been started this past summer to help children in Appleton with the cost of playing baseball. The Appleton baseball teams have changed and are now merged with Hope and Lincolnville. Ken Butler, with the help of some others in town, would like to see baseball stay in Appleton, and still be able to have games on Appleton Ridge, at Mel Raven’s field. If you are interested in being a part of the memorial fund, or helping with baseball in any way you can call Ken Butler at 785-2009. They have also established a Facebook page, Jeff Landwehr Memorial. They are planning a golfing tournament at West Appleton Country Club this fall to help raise money.
Harvest of the Arts
Year after year the high level of quality of the work and performances at Appleton Historical Society's annual Harvest of the Arts has amazed and delighted those who've attended. View work by visual artists from Appleton, hear readings of the works of Appleton writers and poets and enjoy music performed by Appleton musicians. The 2013 Harvest of the Arts will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at Union Meeting House on Sennebec Road in Appleton. Rain or shine, don't miss this annual event!
Volunteers needed to help set up and take down. Call Jan Janville at 785-4188 if you wish to volunteer or participate!

Appleton Library News
Appleton teen Katie Moody has been selected by The Friends of Baxter State Park as one of 10 high school students to participate in its Maine Youth Wilderness Leadership Program this summer. Accompanied by wilderness leaders from Chewonki Foundation, participants will spend eight days backpacking from one end of Baxter State Park to the other. This program teaches understanding of the wilderness through science, art, storytelling, photography, writing and history, and promotes the importance of wilderness preservation.
Katie will highlight her experiences from this program with a visual presentation in the Appleton Library Community Meeting Room at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 29.
Story Time will resume on Thursday, Sept. 19. If you know of youngsters who would enjoy this program, please invite their parents to stop in to check it out! If you or someone you know is interested in being a reader or a crafter at this program on a monthly basis, please contact Carol Ann Hendricks at 785-2373.
