Canceled: Appleton Historical Society to meet Jan. 6

Appleton — This meeting has been canceled due to the weather.

Ring in the New Year Monday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m., at the Appleton Historical Society's first monthly meeting of 2014.

The business portion of the meeting will begin at 7 p.m., and will include the presentation of a slate of officers for 2014, to be voted upon at the February meeting. After business is conducted, likely by 7:30, the evening's program will be a visit to, and an opportunity to examine, the AHS's collections, housed in the historical society room in the Mildred Stevens Williams Memorial Library. The collections continue to grow, and continue to be better organized all the time.

Light refreshments will be served after the evening's program.

Dues for 2014 are due and payable after the first of the year. Dues are $5 per person for the entire year, $10 per couple. Please see Elaine Tracy, treasurer.

The annual AHS Potluck Dinner will precede the Monday, Feb. 3 annual meeting, which begins at 6:15 p.m. at Appleton library.

Please bring a dish to share, and a place setting for yourself. Please note the earlier start time. The election of officers for 2014 will be held at the annual meeting. Andy Vietze will provide the evening's program. He will speak on his latest book, "Boon Island, a True Story of Mutiny, Shipwreck, and Cannibalism."
