Appalachian Trail Trekker Inspires Kiwanis Members
In the interest of providing programs on a variety of topics, the Kiwanis Club of Rockland hosted Jeff Charland as its featured guest speaker at the regular weekly meeting on September 16. A resident of Camden, Charland is a vice president and retail regional manager at Camden National Bank. His exciting presentation included photos and his narrative of when he hiked the Appalachian Trail with his dog Benjamin, a journey of over 2,100 miles that took more than six months to complete in 1995. The Appalachian Trail covers 14 states, with the southern terminus in Springer Mountain, Georgia, and the northern terminus at Mount Katahdin in Maine. A self-admitted “tree-hugger”, [he showed a photo to prove it], Charland is deeply involved in working with others to maintain the place where we live, work and play a wonderful place to be. In the photo, Kiwanis president Amy Pease of Union thanks Charland for his time to share his experience with the club’s members.
