Any-deer permit paper application deadline July 27
Augusta — Those interested in submitting a paper application for the 2012 any-deer (antlerless) permit lottery must apply by Friday, July 27 in person at the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife or by mail.
The Department no longer mails paper applications.
Online applications, which can be found online at mefishwildlife.com, are due by Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 11:59 p.m.
There is no charge to apply for the any-deer permit lottery, which will be held on Friday, Sept. 7.
A total of 34,160 any-deer permits will be issued in 13 of the state's 29 wildlife management districts (WMDs) for this year’s whitetail deer hunting season, which begins in late October. It is bucks-only in all other wildlife management districts.
The 13 wildlife management districts where any-deer (antlerless) may be hunted this year, with a permit, are: 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 29.
Deer hunting season (firearms) begins with Youth Deer Hunting Day on Saturday, Oct. 20. Youths may take a buck statewide or an antlerless deer only in the WMD where any-deer permits will be issued this fall.
This year, Maine Residents Only Day is on Saturday, Oct. 27.
Deer season runs Oct. 29 through Nov. 24.
