Annual Runquist show at Ocean View Grange

Jul 23, 2012
Björn Runquist's “Monhegan: First Light” is an oil on linen.

Martinsville — Björn Runquist will have his annual open-studio show Friday through Sunday, Aug. 3 through 5 at the Ocean View Grange, Route 131. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the public is invited to an opening reception Friday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The grange is located a mile south of the center of Port Clyde.

Runquist is primarily a landscape painter who occasionally returns to abstract work, and his painting covers a wide range of subjects from the ordinary elements of everyday life. This year’s show deals with several themes: Monhegan; street scenes near and far; and his continued exploration of doorways and the visual patterns that work creates in the Maine world of commercial fishing.

Runquist will do two painting workshops this summer, at Ona Barnet’s Rock Gardens Inn and from his studio in St. George, where he will teach with his artist son, Tollef Runquist.

Björn Runquist has shown widely on the East coast, and his paintings are in numerous private and corporate collections including the Farnsworth Art Museum. His work has been included in the State Department’s Art in Embassies program for the last eight years and may be seen on its website, art.state.gov/artists.aspx; artcollectormaine.com; and bjornrunquist.com.
