American Chestnuts benefit from art

Jun 03, 2014

Whitefield — Author and illustrator Coreysha Stone will present her one-woman art show to benefit the Maine Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation at Sheepscot General Store, 98 Townhouse Road.

The show, titled "Bringing Back the Giants Of the Forest," is inspired by the American Chestnut tree, represented through Stone’s acrylic paintings. These illustrate the various parts of the tree including the leaves, husks and nuts, throughout the seasons.

The show will open Friday, June 6, at 6 p.m. with an artist reception. An AFC representative will be on hand Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to noon for an information session and discussion regarding the profound history of the American Chestnut tree and current efforts to revitalize populations in the United States. There are more than 10 orchards in Maine including Camden, Hope and Unity.

For more information, contact Sheepscot General Store at 549-5185.
