Amato's wins third straight, makes pitch for strong second half

Rockland — The American Legion Zone 2 regular season is nearly at its midway point, with Rockland-based Amato's hovering over the .500 mark.

After losing three of its first four games, Amato's is on the rebound and, as of July 2, sported a 4-3 record, thanks to a doubleheader forfeit over Franklin County and an 8-7 win over Augusta June 28.

Amato's was set to face Gardiner July 2, but the game was rained out and moved to Friday, July 6 at 5:45 p.m. in Gardiner. It is the second time the team's game with Gardiner was moved.

Amato's is on the road for upcoming games, including at Subway on Tuesday, July 3 at Colby College in Waterville; at Lincoln County on Thursday, July 5 in Waldoboro; at Gardiner on Friday, July 6; and in a doubleheader on Saturday, July 7 at Waterville.

Amato's 8, Augusta 7

At Rockland June 28, Amato's took a late lead and held off a late Augusta rally to prevail by one run.

Leading Amato's at the plate were Anthony Campagnoli (double, single, run), Bryant Matthews (double, 2 runs), Joe Nelsen (single), Kyle Olehnik (2 singles, run), Taylor Hall (single, 2 runs), Drew Townsend (single, run) and Adam Landwehr (single).

For Augusta, Carrier (home run), Lalmarle (double, run), Lucus (single, run), Shostak (double, run), Foster (2 singles, run, stolen base), Shepard (single), Lewis (single) and Edwards (single) led the charge.

Landwehr pitched for Amato's, allowing nine hits and four walks, with seven strikeouts. Lalmarle and Lewis pitched for Augusta, allowing nine hits and five walks, with seven strikeouts.
