Alfred Stanley

Rockland — Alfred Stanley, 92, resident of Rockland, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at his home.

Mr. Stanley was a native of Monhegan Island, and was the son of the late Dwight F. and Freda Murphy Stanley. He attended the Monhegan Island Public Schools. Mr. Stanley was a self-employed Commercial Fisherman until retiring in the middle 1990s. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy and was a member of the Friendship, Maine VFW Post.

Mr. Stanley was predeceased in death by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy McDonough Stanley. He is survived by his brother, Sherman M. Stanley and his wife Barbara of Monhegan Island; nephew, Sherman D. Stanley of Monhegan Island; niece, Carolyn Sutherland of Camden; great-niece, Adair Bell and her son Caden of North Augusta, S.C.; great-nephew, Dwight P. Stanley, Cumberland Forside; and great-nephew Sam Sutherland of Camden.

Very nice man. Always enjoyed his visits here at the shop and talking with him.Rest in peace Alfred. When I get to St.Martins again I'll look you up.
