AIO begins Fall Harvest Food Drive
Rockland — The Area Interfaith Outreach Pantry has begun its annual food drive and it will continue through Nov. 13. There will be decorated containers around town for non-perishable food donations.
In this time of economic stress the needs that the AIO food pantry fills for the Knox County community has grown. More and more families are coming to the pantry for their most basic needs. An average of 315 families are served each month, which is about 650 to 700 people. It keeps getting harder and harder to keep the shelves stocked to help everyone.
With the holidays approaching lets help neighbors to provide a nutritious and hearty meal for their families.
Large companies in Rockland conduct internal holiday food drives for AIO among their employees. A company looking to participate in this way can contact 593-6206 for more information.
AIO thanks the members of the Coast Guard in Rockland for being a partner in this program for many years. They deliver the containers and pick up the donated food for delivery to the pantry.
Contributions of food and money from both individuals and corporations are always welcome. The mailing address is P.O. Box 113 Rockland, ME 04841. The pantry is located at 70 Thomaston St. and is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to noon. For further information, call 596-1043.
