Accident in Rockland sends driver to hospital
Rockland — A single-vehicle accident at 191 Thomaston St. in Rockland sent the lone occupant of the vehicle to the hospital early Wednesday morning, Aug. 22.
Veronica Abbott, 51, of Warren was driving on Thomaston Street when her 2008 Toyota sport utility vehicle went off the road and struck a grouping of trees at 4:51 a.m., according to Deputy Police Chief Wally Tower.
The impact of the accident deployed the airbags in the vehicle. The reason for the loss of control of the vehicle is unknown, Tower said.
The Rockland Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to extract Abbott from the vehicle, and she was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center.
Tower said Abbott will be taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center, adding her injuries are serious but not life threatening.
