A short history of the Georges Valley Railroad
Warren — Allan Socea, retired general manager of the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad from 1983-1989, will be guest speaker for the Warren Historical Society meeting Tuesday, Nov 5, at 7 p.m. at the Dr. Campbell House & Museum, 225 Main St., Warren village.
Socea will give a brief history of the early railroad in Maine leading up to the building of the Georges Valley Railroad.
Around 1919, the GVR was sold and renamed the Knox Railroad, which provided service between Warren and Union. A sampling from his collection of GVR photos and other items will be on display, so please bring questions and memories of the old railroad to share.
The meeting is free and open to the public. For more information, call 273-3145.
