68th class reunion for Rockland class of 1945
Rockland — Rockland High School Class of 1945 held its 68th class reunion recently at the Samoset Resort. They have reunited nearly every year since the 50th reunion in 2009.
It was a beautiful day, holding the promise of a lovely reunion. The view of Rockland harbor and the breakwater lighthouse was a pretty scene.
Al Carville was the master of ceremony, and kept a lively mood throughout the meeting. Dorothy 's 1945 Cauldron yearbook had all the crazy nicknames classmates gave each other, referred to corny jokes, the people the jokes applied to, and the stories written by classmates many years ago.
A moment of silence was held for those who have passed away.
The Samoset provided a television screen, and "Rockland Song" was played. Classmates recalled many places in the film with nostalgia.
Lorraine Iott Gleason sent notes to all classmates both present and absent. As Lorraine mentioned, "what we lacked in members we made up for in spirit."
Thirteen classmates were present, including four married couples: Dale and Jean Lindsey, Don and Sylvia Christoffersen Hawkins, Everett and Arlene Baum and Joseph and Verna Baum. We have 18 married couples within the class.
Tentative plans for the 69th reunion is Aug. 8, 2013.
