The Prospect Community Club and the Prospect Volunteer Fire Dept. want to Thank the people that attended the Benefit Supper, Jan. 21st. It was a small turn out but very generous people. We raised $800.00 for the Emergency Heating Project. There will be another Benefit Spaghetti and Meatball Supper Feb. 11th. Do pray that the weather will be good. We had some snow the 21st. which wasn't supposed to amount to much but the traveling did get slippery. The Supper will start 4-6 PM and hope to see you there. We have helped 4 families as of today and with the cost of Oil, we know that the money doesn't go very far but will do the best we can. Thank you again.
Ed and Miriam Perry celebrated their 61st. Wedding Anniversary last Weds. with a family gathering. Their son Robert and wife Linda of Adellboro, Mass. came up and spent the weekend with them. Congratulations to you both and may you have many more years together.
Its getting to be that time of year again when you have to start getting your records together for Income Taxes. Starting Saturday's, Feb.4 to Apr. 14th. Mrs. Lee Snyder will be at the Stockton Springs Library to assist members of AARP and Senior Citizens prepare their tax returns. Please call 567-3137 in the evenings to make a reservation. Last year was a very busy year for her and this year will not be any different, but she will be in only half a day so get your reservation in early.
It was really good news to hear that the Doctor's have declared Frank Coombs cancer free. He will have to have quarterly check- ups but that is to be expected. He and Dwight Moody seem to have beaten it. Sure hope that it never returns.
One person that is not so lucky is Marilyn Bridges. Her cancer has intensified and she is in pain. Visited with her Sunday afternoon for awhile and she was doing pretty good but come the evening, she wasn't. Marilyn was my Matron of Honor when I married her cousin, Richard Herbest(now deceased) and have seen each other through a lot together. I pray that an Angel will watch over her and help her on her final trip. God Bless you Marilyn.
Received information from Carol Johnson about a Letter to the Editor of the Maine Sunday Telegram that was written by Lucy (Webb) Hardy of Wells telling about the one room School House here in Prospect and the memories that were shared with her from her three siblings.. Memories of hauling water in 5 gallon cans, the old wood stove in the back of the room and the Outhouse in the shed. I too can remember those days as I attended school at the Marsh School in grades 5-8. I think that you really learned more with all 30 or so kids in one room because you not only heard your lesson but theirs as well. Back then we had Penmanship Booklets, had to learn the multiplication tables, rules of division, Phonics (which is unheard of today) but helped us to become better spellers, which seems to be lacking today as the children learn how to write in text or have a different language for the computers. We had respect for our Teachers or else-the parents back then backed the teacher-not you. It was quite the treat when we started to receive Surplus Food-peanut butter, cheese and sometime meat. We also played out- doors every recess unless it rained and spent our energy playing Kick the Can, Haily Over, Hide and Seek, Red Rover, Red Rover and many other games all but forgotten now. At noon time in my seventh and eight grade, we would go across the road to play Baseball in the field with whatever equipment we could bring from home. Carl Warman had the best glove and he shared it with everyone. We really did have fun during those days and actually learned a lot. Ah, the good old days.
Feb. 2nd. will the Ground Hog see his shadow? I hope not, I'm hoping for an early Spring like we had 2 years ago.
