LUPINE VALLEY EQUINE is an ambulatory equine veterinary practice that features state-of-the-art diagnostics and treatments -- from digital radiography, ultrasound, and endoscopy to in-house blood analysis for same-day results.

Dr. Paula J. Benner has practiced equine veterinary medicine exclusively for fifteen years, and she has been a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) since 1995.

A main focus of Dr. Benner's practice is lameness diagnosis and treatment. Her extensive experience in lameness evaluation made Dr. Benner responsible for seven Breeders' Cup Champions while working for Herringswell Stables in Maryland -- when winning by a nose is worth a million-dollar purse. Dr. Benner also recently attended the AAEP Convention and met with Dr. Michael Steward, maker of the Steward Clog, which she has been using very successfully with area farriers in the treatment of acute and chronic laminitis. "The needs of our geriatric friends are a special focus in this practice. Treatment of laminitis is a medical emergency that demands experienced evaluation and precise application of treatment, without which can mean the difference between life and death to an animal -- and that is worth more than a million dollars!" Believing it is important to keep her clients informed of new findings and procedures in this field, a new addition to the practice include the ability to perform abdominal ultrasound in the acute or chronic colic. Dr. Benner will deliver a presentation on the topics of colic and older horse issues at this year's Fourth Annual Open House on February 18th, 2012.

At the 2010 AAEP Convention, Dr. Benner attended seminars on the latest information for the prevention and treatment of Lyme disease. These seminars were delivered by Dr. Tom Divers from Cornell, the leading authority on the disease. Dr. Benner shared her findings at this year's Third Annual Open House, held in February 2011. While at the convention, Dr. Benner also attended seminars in the use of an Ultrasound Wet Lab, which provided the latest skills in ultrasound of the hock, stifle, pastern, as well as the abdomen for non-invasive accurate diagnosis in complicated colics.

Spring is not here yet, however vaccination discounts are always offered at the Open House which will include 20% discounts this year. Dr. Benner wants to remind her clients that Lupine Valley Equine provides all their horses' vaccination needs according to the most current preventative guidelines, which call for a "NO MORE, NO LESS THAN NECESSARY" policy. Also available are up-to-date de-worming techniques which prevent the overuse of de-worming where resistance is an issue.

From castrations to pre-purchase exams to the complicated endocrine issues of Cushing's disease, Lupine Valley Equine offers experienced veterinary care, with the most current equine knowledge and state-of-the-art diagnostics and treatments. Remember, experience can mean the difference between life and death for your horse. Trust LUPINE VALLEY EQUINE for all your horse's health needs.

  • Please Note: Lupine Valley Equine is closed on weekends except for emergencies. Medications are dispensed only from Monday through Friday.
