The Camden Garden Club 50 Years Ago
What was the Camden Garden Club doing 40 to 50 years ago??? Five long time members and former members gathered this past week at the Library's Walsh History Center to remember the activities, the civic projects, the Open House Days and the people who were involved in beautifying Camden those many years ago. Ann Montgomery, who joined the Club in 1953, as wll as Stormy Bok, Joan Tibbetts, Ann Bixler and Terry Gruener reminisced about those early years. They especially remembered the Open House Days that included many large summer estates on Beauchamp Point, the Club improvement to the Village Green and Public Landing, the Elm Tree program, the lamp-post baskets, the Flower Shows at St. Thomas' Church and the beginnings of the planting of flowers on the traffic island.
The Garden Club will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2015 and these interviews and others by Past Preseident Hillary Waterman as well as the organization of the Club archives at the History Center will be part of that celebration.
