UROCK OFFERS SPECIAL EDUCATION CERTIFICATION

By University College at Rockland | Nov 29, 2009

People interested in becoming certified as special education teachers in Maine have new opportunities thanks to a collaborative program crafted by the University of Maine at Augusta, University of Maine at Machias and University College at Rockland. Students will no longer have to live on, or commute to a campus to earn the course credits required to become certified in Maine. Students can even fulfill student teaching requirements locally.

As part of the new agreement, students enroll in UMA’s Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies degree program while completing all of the courses (including student teaching) required to be fully certified by the Maine Department of Education. For those who already have a bachelor’s degree, post-baccalaureate options are also available.

University College at Rockland advisors offer a range of student support services, including placement testing, financial aid assistance, tutoring, and more to help students pursue this course of study.

Courses in the special education program are available through a variety of distance learning modalities at University College at Rockland. For more information about the Special Education program, contact URock at 800-286-1594 or visit its website at www.learn.maine.edu/rockland.
