Massage Therapists Graduate

Waldoboro, ME - The Downeast School of Massage held commencement exercises for 6  new massage therapists from the 46th graduation class and approximately 100 guests on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the school in Waldoboro.  Guest speaker, Cheryl Tardy, LMT and American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) Maine Chapter President gave a profound speech about the elements of a successful practice including integrity, knowledge, imagination, balance, leadership, and teamwork. Cheryl offered congratulations and best wishes to the graduates, urged them all to consider volunteering as part of their individual practices, and to be active in the AMTA ME chapter.

Michelle Olson and Ken Bureau represented their class by speaking to the audience at graduation. Memories surfaced with laughter, gratitude, and tears representing the deep bonding shared by this class over the course of this year.

Nancy Waltz Dail, BA, nationally-certified massage therapist and director of theschool, delivered a few  final words before passing out diplomas with the Director of Admissions and faculty member, Emily Waltz and the Director of Education, Suzanne Ash.

Graduating were: Ken Bureau, Belgrade; Jill Cocks, Cushing; Susan McAtee, Alna; Tami McGarvey, Rangeley;  Michelle Olson, Hope; and Kelli Railsback, Nobleboro.

In business for over 30 years now, the over 600-hour curriculum at DSM is institutionally accredited by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation. Completion of the state-approved program is required for students to become Licensed Massage Therapists in the State of Maine. The 10-month program includes extensive instruction in anatomy, physiology, massage, clinic, kinesiology, pathology, reflexology, deep tissue therapy, hydrotherapy, to name a few, and, depending on the student’s major, intensely-focused course work in sports massage, shiatsu, or energy courses.
