Grant to Fund Community Woodturning Classes

Rockport, ME -The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship has been awarded a grant from the Quimby Family Foundation of Portland, Maine to launch a new program of community-oriented classes this fall. The $5,000 grant defrays the start-up costs of a new curriculum of evening and weekend woodturning courses designed to fit the schedules and needs of area residents.

“We have long wanted to implement a format that works for people who cannot commit to full-time attendance,” said Center Director Peter Korn. “Fortunately, the Quimby Family Foundation’s commitment to fostering an active, vibrant, and successful art community includes outreach programs. We are grateful for their generosity in making this initiative possible.”

The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship is a nonprofit, year-round school that offers courses in furniture and related arts such as carving and woodturning. Information about community turning classes may be found at www.woodschool.org or by calling the school at 207-594-5611.
