The Camden Public Library has announced the speaker series for this year’s Green October theme: “Green Food/Local Food: The Connection between Sustainability and Local Food.” Throughout the month of October the library will host a variety of speakers including restaurant chefs, farmers, food startups, a nutritional counselor, and a naturalist. The “local food” movement has impact locally, globally, and nutritionally, and the library will explore some of the local efforts and local effects of the “green food” movement. “Last year,” said Ken Gross, program director at the library, “for ‘Green October’ we invited a series of speakers on renewable energy. We had a great response, and I think we contributed to the community debate on green energy. But we had a lot of requests for talks on food and sustainability, and I think we have put together a terrific collection of speakers. We always get a good response for food events!” He added, “We appreciate the support from our all speakers, especially the restaurants who are taking time to come to the library to talk about their farm-to-table practices on October 29.”

Saturday, October 29, 2:00 pm – Panel presentation on the “Farm to Table” movement in local restaurants. Participants will include Kerry Altiero of Café Miranda, Anne Perkins of Headacre Farm, Annmarie Ahearn of Salt Water Farm in Lincolnville, and Christina Sidoti of Paolina’s Way in Camden (click here for more information).
