Rockland Rotarian's Induct New President and Recognize Local Rotarians
ROCKPORT- - A Rockland native became Rockland Rotary’s 86th club President on June 29th at the Samoset Resort. Doug Curtis, Jr., was inducted by outgoing President Judy Wallingford during the annual change of command ceremony.
Curtis has been a Rotarian since 1999 and currently works as a financial advisor for Edward Jones in Rockland. Wallingford is the President of Aqua Maine. Curtis praised Wallingford for her work as President of the club and read two citations from the President of Rotary International and the District Governor which the club was awarded during her tenure.
On hand for the presentation was District Governor Deborah Walters who is the incoming Governor of Rotary District 7790 which consists of the eastern and central parts of Maine and most of the Province of Quebec.
Steve Durrell was named Rotarian of the Year.
The club awarded seven Paul Harris Fellows to John Bragg, Stu Thro, Rob Craig, Kermit Vocannon, Jr., Ann Bicknell, Gene Reil and Wallingford. Craig, Vocannon and Bicknell are first time recipients. The Paul Harris award is the highest award in Rotary and recognizes Rotarians for their work for service above self. Craig received his award from his wife Sherree, a former Past President of the club.
The new Rotary board was introduced at the meeting. They include, President-Elect Dave Theriault, Vice President Gene Reil, Secretary Joyce Burnham, Treasurer Diane Zollo, Past President Wallingford, Board members, Blaine Curtis, Walden Chandler, Durrell and Vocannon. The Sergeant of Arms this year is Justin Coffin and the Publicity chair is Averyl Belyea.
Rockland Rotary was founded in 1924 and its first President was William M. Spear, who served three terms. The club meets on Wednesdays at 12:15 at the Samoset Resort.
